Sustaining Oregon's African American History and Legacy

The Oregon African American Museum is sponsoring a conference on sustaining Oregon's African American History and Legacy on February 14, 2010 at the Architectural Heritage Center in Portland, Oregon. The conference will open with Mr. Rodney J. Reynolds, Founder, Puplisher & CEO of American Legacy Magazine. Other speakers will include Cathy Galbraith, Executive Director, Bosco-Milligan Foundation/Architectural Heritage Center; Willie B. Richardson, Chairperson of Oregon African American Museum; Gwen Carr, Vice Chairperson of Oregon Northwest Black Pioneers; and Morgen Young, Architectural Heritage Center. National Trust Diversity Scholarship Program

The OAAM is pleased to announce that Broad Trustee, Kimberly Moreland, is the recipient of the National Trust of Historic Preservation Diversity Scholarship and the Elisabeth Walton Potter Historic Preservation Advocacy and Education Award. These scholarships will allow Trustee Moreland to attend the 2010 National Preservation Conference which will be held in Austin, Texas in October.

The National Trust Diversity Scholarship Program (DSP) provides financial assistance to individuals from diverse social, economic, racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds to attend the National Preservation Conference. The Elisabeth Walton Potter Historic Preservation Advocacy and Education Awards are given each year to heritage volunteers and professionals who want to expand their preservation abilities and knowledge. Recipients of the DSP and Elisabeth Walton Potter Awards are expected to apply what they learn at the conference toward historic preservation-related efforts in their local Oregon communities and/or region.

13th Annual Alberta Street Fair

The Oregon African American Museum will have a booth at the 13th Annual Alberta Street Fair in Portland on Saturday, August 21, 2010 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The fair, held in NE Portland is a family-oriented event celebrationg the community and will have music, food, craft and other vendors and lots of art. Stop by our booth and learn about the museum.
